How to remove EXIF data from a photo
- Add photos. Drop one or several JPEG, PNG or WebP files (up to 50 MB each).
- Review what was found. Each file shows the metadata it contained, such as GPS coordinates, camera make and model, lens, capture date and editing software.
- Download clean copies. Save each cleaned photo, or use Download All Clean. Export Report saves a summary of what was removed.
What is removed and what is kept
| Removed | Kept |
|---|---|
| GPS location, camera and lens details, dates, serial numbers, software, comments, XMP and IPTC blocks | The image pixels, the colour profile (so colours look the same) and the orientation (so the photo is not rotated) |
The image is not re-compressed, so there is no quality loss.
Why remove photo metadata
Phone photos often store the exact place they were taken. Some websites and apps strip this when you upload, but many file-sharing services, email attachments and messaging apps that send files as documents keep it. Removing it before sharing stops others reading your home or workplace location from the file.
Limits
HEIC, TIFF and RAW files are not supported; export them as JPEG first. Metadata cannot hide what is visible in the picture, so check for house numbers, screens, documents or reflections.
