How the work hours tracker works
Each shift is recorded as a clock-in time, any number of breaks, and a clock-out time. Worked time is the total session minus breaks. Anything above your daily target counts as daily overtime, and the weekly summary also shows hours above 40 for the current Monday–Sunday week.
How to calculate hours worked by hand
- Subtract clock-in from clock-out (9:05 to 17:50 is 8 h 45 min).
- Subtract unpaid breaks (a 30-minute lunch leaves 8 h 15 min).
- Convert minutes to decimal by dividing by 60 (15 min = 0.25, so 8.25 h).
- Add each day together for the weekly total.
Minutes to decimal hours
| Minutes | Decimal hours |
|---|---|
| 15 | 0.25 |
| 30 | 0.50 |
| 45 | 0.75 |
| 6 | 0.10 |
| 20 | 0.33 |
Overtime
Rules differ by country and contract. In the US, the Fair Labor Standards Act generally requires overtime for non-exempt employees after 40 hours in a work week; some states also have daily limits. Set your own daily target in the tracker so the overtime figure matches your agreement.
Your data
Shifts are saved in this browser's local storage only. Clearing site data removes them, so export a CSV regularly if you need a permanent record. Use the timesheet generator to produce a printable weekly sheet, or the work hours calculator to total times you already know.
