Where 3:2 is used
3:2 matches 35 mm film and the sensor of most interchangeable-lens cameras, so it is the default shape for many photographs. Typical uses: DSLR and mirrorless camera photos, 6 × 4 inch prints and some laptop screens.
Common 3:2 resolutions
| Width × height | Name |
|---|---|
| 1080 × 720 px | Web photo |
| 1800 × 1200 px | 6 × 4 in print at 300 dpi |
| 3000 × 2000 px | 6 MP |
| 6000 × 4000 px | 24 MP |
How to calculate 3:2 dimensions
Height = width × 2 ÷ 3. Width = height × 3 ÷ 2. Round to whole pixels; many video encoders also need even numbers.
