Where 4:3 is used
4:3 was the shape of standard-definition TV and early computer monitors. Many phone cameras still capture photos in 4:3 by default. Typical uses: iPad screens, older TVs and monitors, presentations and many phone camera photos.
Common 4:3 resolutions
| Width × height | Name |
|---|---|
| 640 × 480 px | VGA |
| 1024 × 768 px | XGA |
| 1600 × 1200 px | UXGA |
| 2048 × 1536 px | QXGA |
How to calculate 4:3 dimensions
Height = width × 3 ÷ 4. Width = height × 4 ÷ 3. Round to whole pixels; many video encoders also need even numbers.
