What is PTO?

PTO (Paid Time Off) is a single bucket of paid leave that combines vacation, personal and sometimes sick leave, used widely in the US and EU. Indian companies use EL/CL/SL split — but the planning logic is identical.

How to maximize PTO around holidays

  • Take Friday + Monday around a Saturday public holiday → 4-day weekend with 2 PTO.
  • Take Mon–Fri the week after Christmas → 9-day break with 5 PTO.
  • Cluster around Republic/Independence Day, Diwali, Eid, Easter or Thanksgiving for the best ratio.

Does PTO carry forward?
